I hope this finds everyone healthy and well. Hopefully the taste of spring we had this weekend was rejuvenating and you took some time to enjoy it.

On the heels of the Governor’s announcement of Friday, please know that we are in daily contact with BOCES administration with a long list of questions from members as we navigate these uncharted waters. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your building rep.

I also wanted to share a couple of things specific to OCMBFT. First is our officer election. All offices in the OCMBFT were up for election which was to be held at our May meeting. Given the current circumstances, we were unable to hold a meeting, but had already done the call for nominations in accordance with the bylaws.

We consulted with our LRS from NYSUT, as well as leaders from NYSUT Headquarters, and reviewed our bylaws, which state:

All Federation officers shall be elected with open nominations and by secret ballot. The principle of one-person, one-vote shall apply to all Federation elections. If there is only one candidate for a vacancy no election shall be necessary and the candidate shall be declared the winner.
Building rep elections have been postponed until the fall when we are back to school and able to hold building level meetings.

Due to the current situation with COVID-19, we had to make the difficult decision to postpone both our clambake and our retirement dinner. We have tentatively rescheduled the clambake for October 16, details to follow as we get closer.

The month of May is open enrollment for the sick leave bank. An email was sent yesterday to those that are not currently members along with an enrollment form. If you need information or didn’t receive the form, please contact Tammy Barber.

As we continue to move forward in these stressful and difficult times, please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Every one of you make us proud to be your union leaders every single day.
